Josh Abbott

Joshua Abbott is a mechanical engineer and a managing partner at Tangent Design Engineering. 

Josh has been managing product development for 16 years, initially as a product manager at a medical device company before joining Tangent’s management team in 2006.

He is experienced in product development and engineering in the industrial, consumer, and medical device industries and has led numerous projects from initial design through to production. Josh values close collaboration with customers; always with the mindset to create and execute successful commercialization strategies that achieve both product and business success.

He holds a BASc Mechanical Engineering (Queen’s University) and a MSE Biomedical Engineering (University of New South Wales).

Tangent Design Engineering Ltd. Is a Calgary, Alberta based new product and technology development firm that has been in business for 14 years. Tangent’s services include ideation and concept development, applied research and development, contract product engineering services, and manufacturing. With 30 multidisciplinary engineers and designers, Tangent can tackle tough and challenging engineering problems that result in revolutionary products in the medical, oil and gas, industrial sensing and control, transportation, agriculture, and defence sectors.


Dr Robert Sheldon

CEO, 42 Health Sensors

Dr Robert Sheldon is an academic cardiologist and international leader in research and care for low blood pressure disorders; was Senior VP Research at AHS; and a member of Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. His group is the world-leading centre for randomized clinical trials of syncope, which is a loss of consciousness due to low blood pressure. He was President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Academy and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. He received the Lifetime Achievement Awards of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society, Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the UK Arrhythmia Alliance. He has published nearly 350 manuscripts and chapters, most concerning heart rate and blood pressure control.
